Annual Parachute Deployment & FREE Repacking evening.

Venue: Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, Hollingworth Lake Country Park

Last year this went really well. We were all finished by 9.30pm and in the bar!

There were 4 FAILED deployment attempts - one by a flyer with about 20+ years experience. So its not just a repack - its a practice deployment session. The first one failed TWICE because he did not let go of the reserve handle when he threw the container away. This is very, very common. The second failed because he could not pull the handle away from the Velcro retaining. Some systems have lots of Velcro which is very hard to pull. The trick is to twist and peel the handle away. Again a common one.

So, we had 4 failed deployment attempts. In a controlled environment, relatively relaxed environment. Panic had its part to play. So how relaxed would you be if you were throwing yours for real and your life depended on it? Could you throw yours successfully?

If your reserve has not been re-packed within 12 months, there is a good chance that it will take much longer to open - if it opens at all. Over time there is an increase in static build up, dampness and a reduction of air between layers. Typical  comment "Oh I've not been out for 6 months so the reserve will be OK"

Will it?

See you 1oth April 2008 for the next FR££ deployment practice and repacking session.
